In the app
- Text size. Altar uses the system text styles, so its text follows your Text Size setting. Scripture in the reader grows with it, up to a large size.
- VoiceOver. The feed’s Amen, save, share, read and listen buttons, the widgets and the main controls have spoken labels.
- Reduce Motion. With Reduce Motion on, Altar’s moving backgrounds hold still.
- Listen. Any verse in the feed can be read aloud by your iPhone’s own voice.
- Light and dark. Altar follows your iPhone’s appearance setting.
- Always a way out. Prayer Lock can be switched off at any time, and an emergency unlock is there once an hour, so it never stands between you and an app you need.
On this website
- Pages use headings, landmarks and a “Skip to content” link, and every control can be reached with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring.
- Every screenshot and logo has a text description.
- The site follows your light or dark setting, and our colours are chosen to meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast in both.
- Smooth scrolling and other motion are turned off when you ask your device to reduce motion.
- Text can be zoomed to 200% without losing content, and pages work at phone widths without sideways scrolling.
- There are no cookies, pop-ups or third-party scripts.
We aim for the site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we know isn’t right yet
- Altar is in English only for now.
- Altar doesn’t yet adjust its look for the Reduce Transparency or Increase Contrast settings.
- Some smaller controls in the app may still lack a clear VoiceOver label. If you find one, please tell us which screen it’s on.
Tell us
If anything in Altar or on this website is hard to use with the way you use your iPhone, please write to us. Tell us your iPhone model, iOS version, and any accessibility features you have on, such as VoiceOver or a larger text size. A person reads every message, and accessibility problems go to the front of the queue.
